Outside of Jams, a number of us communicate online using Internet Relay Chat (IRC). IRC is a chat protocol that was invented in 1988. During the 1990s, IRC was very popular, with some networks having as many as 70,000 users; however, in the 2000s, it began to lose popularity.

Despite its underground nature and the lack of mainstream use, IRC is still being improved and has many users. It is also a great place to get help with issues, and chat with people online.
